The Islamic Center at NYU, following the opinion of the Fiqh Council of North America and the Islamic Society of North America, will observe the start of Ramadan on Friday, July 20th, 2012 and Eid ul Fitr on Sunday, August 19th, 2012.

Information on all of our Ramadan programs, including Iftar and Taraweeh, can be found at www.nycramadan.com

Iftars and Taraweeh prayers will be held in our facilities at 238 Thompson Street, 4th Floor, NY NY 10012, from Monday thru Friday throughout the month inshallah, and will be closed on the weekends.  We will also be arranging for qiyaam prayers at alternate locations, dates and timings TBD.    To enter the space, please be sure to have a valid govt. issued ID card to sign into the building.

Our first iftar will be this Friday night inshallah, and we will begin hosting Taraweeh Prayers this Thursday night immediately following the Isha prayer at 9:57pm.   Because we are paying late fees to keep the building open for iftar and taraweeh, we will need to be out of the building by 11pm.  As such, we plan to start Isha as soon as it comes in each night to make the most use of the time.  In order to complete an entire reading of the Quran,
a khatm, we will begin reciting in our prayer room about half an hour before Isha starts and continue from where we left off in the recitation during the Taraweeh prayer.  Everyone is welcome to join after iftar, which will be taking place in the adjoining rooms on the same floor and follow along in the reading.

Throughout the month, we will be hosting a variety of discussion groups, lectures, and film screenings prior to iftar that will be free and open for anyone to join.

For those of you who are interested in helping out, we still need volunteers for iftars nightly.  You can sign up to be a volunteer by clicking
here

We are also still looking for sponsors for our iftar dinners.  If you can cover an entire night, a part of a night, can find a group of friends to get together and cover a night, we would greatly appreciate the support.  You can find more details on how to sponsor an iftar by clicking
here

Lastly, the IC will be hosting a fundraising iftar dinner with Islamic Relief on August 6th, 2012 to raise money for the relief efforts in Syria.  To date, there have been over 50,000 victims of the massacres and our hope is to raise both awareness and funding to help them to the best of our ability.  We will need volunteers to help with that dinner, and a volunteers' meeting will be held this Thursday at 7pm at the IC.  If you are interested in helping out but can't make the meeting, please contact Aliya Latif at aliyaplatif@gmail.com

All of our Ramadan programs are open to the entire community.

On behalf of the Islamic Center at NYU, Ramadan Mubarak wa Ramadan Kareem wa Kullu A'am wa Antum bi Khayr.  May Allah accept from all of us during this blessed month of Ramadan.  Ameen.
