The United Muslim Association is a student-run organization that serves as the undergraduate wing of the broader Islamic Center at NYU. It seeks to foster a sense of community among Muslims on campus as well as in the New YorkCity area, granting them a means to worship, learn and interact. This is achieved by providing the community with a variety of spiritual, political, da'wah-related, athletic, and social programs and services. Furthermore, the UMA aims to foster interfaith relations within NYU through various dialogue-promoting events.

 Below, we list the Shura Council members, along with contact info and office hours, which are times during which each shura member will be available to the community to adress any concerns or to hang out at the IC.

Ahmed Raza 2012 

This year I will be representing the undergraduate Muslim leadership at NYU. As a senior in Stern, I am studying Finance and Economics with a minor in Public Policy & Management. My interests include Clay Matthews (Green Bay), bombarding the Shura and UMA with unnecessary e-mails and dodgeball at the IC. Look forward to meeting everyone iA. Noor Zafar 2012

Noor is a senior at NYU studying International Relations. Interests include basketball, Texas and not much else. Atif Wasti 2012

Salam everyone! I am on this year's UMA board as well as one of the Co-editors of Aftab: Rays of Light, the IC literary magazine. I am currently entering into my final year of a 5 year dual degree program between NYU and the Stevens Institute of Technology, finishing up my second Bachelors degree. Ali Shah 2013

Born in the ancient foothills of suburban New Jersey a score years ago, Ali Shah was ordinary from a young age. He continues his "plain-old", "nothing to see here", "ehhh" demeanor to this day. He is often cited as someone that is neither seen nor heard, a result of his time at the Milford Academy. He would appreciate if you didn't scare him and helped foster his belief that he might be a super hero. You should also ask him any and all questions about the United Muslims Assocation, ICNYU, NYU, New York City and armadillos…especially, armadillos.

Ferheen Chaudhry 2013

Ferheen is a junior at NYU studying Polit...International Rela...Economics. Yes, economics. Wait that may change! Regardless, as a first-year Shura member, Ferheen is excited to get to know and contribute to this UMA. Interests include underground rap, slam poetry and pretty flowers. Muneeb Syed 2013

My name is Muneeb and I'm a Junior studying Economics in CAS. I was born in Pakistan, raised up in NYC and currently commuting from Bayside. I'm a diehard Jets, Knicks and Yankees fan. Nothing's better in life (aside from like praying) than going out to watch the game with a bunch of other crazy passionate fans. Aside from that I enjoy reading the Economist and watching The Daily Show. Dani Iqbal 2014

Salam, y'all! My name is Dani Iqbal. I'm a sophomore in the College of Arts and Science on the pre-med track. I'm originally from Sunnyvale, Texas, a tiny suburb 15 miles east of Dallas, and I'm proud to bring some Southern flavor into the UMA! (For the record, it is tough being a Cowboys fan in New York.) You can usually find me around the NYU campus hanging out around Washington Square Park or eating with people on the third floor of Kimmel, pretending like I have friends. I'm also an admissions ambassador, so chances are you'll catch me giving nervous, sweaty-palmed college hopefuls tours of NYU at random times throughout the day. Also, awkwardness tends to follow me around, so be sure to expect a lot of that whenever I'm present! I'm excited for a promising and fulfilling year in coalition with a great Islamic community here at NYU, inshallah.
