Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 = 1st Ramadan, 1429

As there were no credible reports of a local moonsighting in the United States, The Islamic Center at NYU, in conjunction with various masajid and organizations in the New York City area and around the country, will be observing Tuesday, September 2nd as the first day of fasting for the month of Ramadan.

Iftar Dinners

Iftar dinners will begin on Tuesday evening at sundown and will carry on through the end of Ramadan, in sha' Allah.  Dinners will be held at our new facility in the basement level of St. Joseph's Church, which is located at 371 Sixth Avenue (corner of 6th Avenue and Washington Place).

Maghrib will begin at 7:26pm on Tuesday, in sha' Allah, and will gradually become earlier as the month progresses.

Taraweeh Prayers

Taraweeh prayers will not be offered on campus this year.  There are many masajid in the area that offer taraweeh prayers, including Medina Masjid on 11th street and 1st Avenue and the 96th St. Masjid on 96th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.  For those who are interested in attending taraweeh prayers, a group will be leaving from NYU following iftar, in sha' Allah.

Jazak Allah khayr for all the warm feedback we've received from the soft-launch of our new website!

As we continue to make adjustments on the backend, we'll be temporarily disabling the Lectures podcast and download services. The Khutbahs podcast and download services will remain unaffected by this change.

Over the coming week, you can look forward to more Khutbahs being posted as well as galleries of our past events, in sha' Allah.
